Aerogen Improves Clinical Outcomes in the Emergency Department
Vibrating mesh nebulizers demonstrated significant impact on ED throughput including a 37-minute reduction in median length of stay per patient when compared to a jet nebulizer.
This study, which included treatment of 1,594 patients, was a quality improvement evaluation using a prospectively identified data set from the electronic medical record comparing all emergency department patients receiving aerosol bronchodilator treatments with small volume jet nebulizer to patients using the vibrating mesh (Aerogen Solo and Aerogen Ultra) in two consecutive months at a busy urban emergency room facility. Treatments were for all patients requiring bronchodilators which included asthma (pediatric and adult) as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).
